Wavespec Limited is the leading marine engineering and naval architecture consultancy in the design and construction of vessels carrying LNG (Liquid Natural Gas) in bulk.
While providing the same full range of design and construction services for gas carriers as we do for tankers, it is Wavespec's expertise in LNG that sets it apart from all other consultancies.
In recent times we have developed, in conjunction with owners, charterers and shipyards, a new range of LNG vessel designs that are now beginning to revolutionise the carriage of LNG at sea.
This includes a variety of different size vessels, including the biggest LNG carriers ever to be ordered. This is taken yet further by implementing new, innovative propulsions systems that include slow speed diesel systems for the first time.
Our participation in this two-year development programme, carried out with major prestigious clients, included detailed technology assessments, risk analyses, HAZID studies and HAZOP studies. These studies allowed development of LNG carrier functional design specifications that change LNG carrier design fundamentally. Orders for these vessels have now been placed with shipyards in the Far East.
Wavespec's involvement does not end with these studies, since our personnel are actively involved in carrying out plan approval and overseeing the construction of these vessels.
Beyond this Wavespec, in its own right, is very deeply involved with vessel construction programmes for major clients including, when complete, a series of seven LNG vessels for a single owner. We were recently responsible for approving the plans and overseeing the construction of the first membrane vessel to be delivered from Hyundai Heavy Industries.
Wavespec also provides specialist technical staff to support owners on construction sites; this includes oil majors and significant LNG ship operators.
In conjunction with our sister company Braemar Seascope Limited, we have provided detailed technical, commercial and chartering consultancy services to a Far East state owned oil company. The purpose of this consultancy was to allow a cogent strategy and tender process to be developed for the purchase of LNG, technical development of LNG carrier capabilities and specifications for the carriage of the purchased LNG, assessment of potential shipyards with the capability to construct the vessels, assessment of potential owners and joint venture partners to own and operate the vessels, and development of the complete charter party for the vessels; thereby bring the joint venture into a cohesive whole.
Wavespec has been, and is currently, involved in LNG construction programmes in the majority of shipyards with LNG carrier construction capability including the construction of the first LNG carriers in China.
