Our expertise is available to owners wishing to carry out vessel conversions. This includes all of the skills developed in new building projects and bringing to bear our considerable design expertise.

Typically this will include writing conversion and refit specifications, shipyard tender evaluations, assessment of the shipyards themselves, cost estimating, technical and economic feasibility studies for specific conversion projects and optimisation of maintenance procedures.

We can carry out detailed design for all aspects of conversions, from basic concept to submissions to classification societies and obtaining full approval.

Typical projects have included conversion of vessels to FPSO and FSU units and conversion of standard tankers to shuttle tanker service. Studies into vessel lay-up, reactivation and life extension programmes have been carried out.

Wavespec can supply, install, commission, maintain and provide training on equipment such as communications systems, including GMDSS, gas and fire detection and protection systems, oil detection and monitoring equipment, and ship performance monitoring.

On completion of conversions and retrofits we can supply specialists staff to sail with the vessel, usually for the first full loading and discharge cycle.

Dry Docks & Refits

We provide specialist personnel to assist owners during dry dockings.

Typically these would be specialists that an owner does not have on staff and may include naval architects for structural assessments and repairs, containment specialists for LNG carriers, cargo handling specialists for LPG carriers, and electronics specialists for control and automation systems.

Wavespec also works with owners to develop dry dock specifications, dry dock quotation assessment and commercial discussions on the completion of dry docks.
